Recently, Troop 728 fell victim to crime. The two enclosed trailers were broken into and Troop equipment was stolen. The Richardson Police were called once it was discovered and they brought the Crime Scene Investigators in to evaluate the situation. Little in the way of discernable evidence was found except for a couple of items suspected to have been left behind by the criminals. They used a bolt cutter to remove the padlocks from the trailers and helped themselves to, as best we can determine, a pop-up tent we use for winter camp and other events, several troop tents, tools, lanterns and backpacking stoves. Most of the items lost stolen cost well in excess of $100 each to replace. This is unfortunate, but at the same time, we are lucky the loss wasn't as total as other Troops have experienced. It is thought that our trailers, with Boy Scouts Insignia all over them, deterred the criminals from driving off with the trailers themselves. These trailers also had hitch locks, further deterring complete removal of the trailers. We will be working with our chartering organization to install additional lighting around the trailers and we have already replaced the padlocks with the largest padlocks that will fit. These are hardened to resist bolt cutters and hack saws. If you are interested in assisting the Troop in replacing the lost equipment, you may send a check to Troop 728, c/o St Paul Catholic Church, 720 S. Floyd, Richardson, TX 75080. Please make any checks to Troop 728. If you would like a letter acknowledging your donation, please include a note stating so and include your return address. Thank you for your assistance.
